Minion® font
Minion is an old-style serif by Robert Slimbach, first issued by Adobe in 1990. It isn’t free: it is a commercial typeface. Adobe Fonts includes it with an Adobe subscription, for personal and commercial use. FontKind hasn’t measured it, so the free fonts below stand beside it by their own description and by class, not by measurement.

Questions about Minion
Is Minion free?
No. Minion is a paid typeface, licensed by its foundry. Adobe Fonts includes it with an Adobe subscription, for personal and commercial use. The free fonts on this page are free for commercial use too, under open licences.
Who designed Minion?
Minion was designed by Robert Slimbach, and first issued by Adobe in 1990.
Can I use Minion in Word, Google Docs or Canva?
In Word, only after you install a licensed copy: neither Windows nor Microsoft 365 comes with Minion. Google Docs adds fonts from Google Fonts, and Minion isn’t one of them; of the free fonts on this page, Crimson Text, Cormorant Garamond and EB Garamond are there, under More fonts. Canva publishes no list of its fonts: search its font menu, or, with Canva Pro, upload a font whose licence allows it.
What is the closest free alternative to Minion?
FontKind hasn’t measured Minion: it has no licensed copy of it, so this page doesn’t rank free fonts by how close they come. Crimson Text, Cormorant Garamond and EB Garamond are old-style serifs in Google Fonts’ own classification, the class FontKind matches to Minion.
