Facebook fonts
Facebook posts and comments have no bold or italic button. Type once, copy your text in bold, italic, underlined or cursive letters, and see it in a post before you share it.
Unicode symbols, not fonts: screen readers may skip or spell them out, and search may not read them as words. For print or a logo, use real fonts

About facebook fonts
01
Bold where there is no bold button
Facebook sets posts and comments in the font of the device reading them and gives them no bold, italic or underline. Styled letters stand in: each is a look-alike character from Unicode, so ๐ฏ๐ผ๐น๐ฑ stays bold wherever the post is shared.
Bold sans is the closest to Facebookโs own letters, so a line in it reads as a heading, not a decoration. Bold a first line or a few words, never the whole post.
02
Your name stays plain
Facebook asks for the name you use in everyday life, and its rules allow no symbols, unusual capitalization or characters from several languages: styled letters are symbols to it, so it turns them down. Page names have rules of the same kind, and usernames take only A to Z, 0 to 9 and periods.
Your Intro, the short bio under your profile picture, takes styled letters, and so do posts, comments and Messenger chats.
03
Bigger letters, Facebookโs own way
For bigger letters Facebook has backgrounds: a text-only post from your timeline, your Feed or a group can sit on a colour or a design, in large type. A photo, a video or a link takes the background away, and posts made as a Page canโt have one.
04
Found, and heard
To a screen reader they are not letters: in tests published in 2025, NVDA, VoiceOver and Narrator skipped styled letters altogether, JAWS spelled each one out with its style, and only TalkBack read the words. Search may not read them as words either. Keep the words people search for, and anything they must read, a date, a link, a price, in plain letters.
05
Real fonts for an image
For a post image, an event cover or a flyer, use real fonts: the font generator sets your words in free fonts and saves them as a PNG to place on a photo in Canva or any editing app.

Facebook fonts, answered
- How do I change the font on Facebook?
- You canโt: Facebook shows posts and comments in each readerโs own font and has no font setting. You can change the letters: type here, copy a line in bold, italic or cursive, and paste it into your post. For bigger letters, a text-only post can sit on a coloured background.
- How do I make text bold on Facebook?
- Facebook has no bold button for posts or comments. Type your text here, copy the Bold sans line, the closest to Facebookโs own letters, and paste it in. Bold a first line or a few words: the rest reads better, and is found in search, in plain letters.
- Can I use a fancy font in my Facebook name?
- No. Facebookโs name rules allow no symbols, unusual capitalization or characters from several languages, and styled letters are symbols to it. Page names have rules of the same kind, and usernames take only A to Z, 0 to 9 and periods. Use styled letters in posts, comments and your Intro.
- How do I write in italics or underline on Facebook?
- Copy the Sans italic or Italic line for slanted text, Underline for a line under it or Strikethrough for a line through it, and paste it into your post or comment. Facebook has none of these buttons.
- Does fancy text work in Facebook comments and Messenger?
- Yes: comments, replies and Messenger chats take styled letters like any text, and so does your Intro. Profile names, Page names and usernames do not.
- Will people find my post if it is in fancy letters?
- Less easily: Facebook search may not match styled letters to the plain words, and screen readers may skip them or spell them out. Keep the words people search for, and anything they must read, in plain letters.
- Can I use bold text on a Facebook Page?
- In its posts and comments, yes, as anyone can. Not in the Pageโs name, whose rules allow no symbols, and posts made as a Page canโt sit on a coloured background.
