Animal Crossing font

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons the dialogue, the villagers’ names and the menus are set in Seurat, a rounded typeface of the Japanese foundry Fontworks, and the logo in Rat Fink Heavy, of House Industries. Both are commercial fonts. These free fonts have the dialogue’s soft, rounded letters; the last is a chunky slab, like the logo.

02 / The lettering, and your questions

01

What font does Animal Crossing use?

The logo uses Rat Fink Heavy, from a House Industries collection based on a hot-rod artist’s hand lettering, set on a bouncing baseline. Some dialogue, the villagers’ names in speech bubbles and the interface are in Seurat. Source: Fonts In Use

Seurat is a Japanese round gothic, a rounded sans, from the foundry Fontworks, with large counters and a warm, gentle look. Source: Adobe Fonts: FOT-Seurat ProN (not linked: the page sells or hands out the font)

02

Is the Animal Crossing font free?

No. Seurat and Rat Fink Heavy are commercial typefaces, licensed by their foundries. The fonts on this page are free, free for commercial use too, under open licences.

03

How do I use these fonts in Canva?

Search Canva’s font menu for the font’s name: Canva publishes no list of its fonts, so the menu is the only way to know. If it isn’t there, Canva Pro and Teams can upload a font file: get it from the font’s page here.

On the free plan, make a PNG of your words in the cute font generator and upload it as an image.

04

And in Cricut Design Space?

Install the font on your computer from its page here: Design Space lists the fonts on your computer as system fonts. Or type your words in the cute font generator and download the SVG: its letters come welded, to cut in one piece. More in Cricut fonts.

05

Can I use them on things I sell?

The fonts, yes: every font on this page is under an open licence that allows commercial use, on shirts, signs, cards and logos. But Animal Crossing and its logo are someone else’s trademarks: a design that copies the logo or uses the name can still need the owner’s permission. This is a plain answer, not legal advice.
