Bold text generator
Bold for the places with no bold button: a Facebook post, an Instagram caption, a LinkedIn post. Type once and copy your text in six bold styles, serif or sans, upright or slanted.
Unicode symbols, not fonts: screen readers may skip or spell them out, and search may not read them as words. For print or a logo, use real fonts

About bold text
01
Serif or sans
The serif bold, ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐, is Unicodeโs mathematical bold, with serifs like a bookโs type. The sans bold, ๐๐ผ๐น๐ฑ, is close to the plain sans-serif apps set their text in, so in a post it reads as the appโs own letters made heavy.
Both have bold digits, ๐๐๐ and ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฏ. The italic bolds have none, so numbers there stay as typed.
02
Apps with a bold of their own
Some apps make text bold themselves, and screen readers read it as words: on Discord type **bold**, on WhatsApp *bold*, in Slack *bold* or press Ctrl+B. Use the styled letters where there is nothing like it: Facebook and Instagram posts, comments, bios and names, and LinkedIn posts.
03
Where it works
They show on todayโs phones and computers, in Instagram and TikTok bios, names, captions and comments, in Discord display names, nicknames and messages, and in posts on X and Facebook. Usernames take only plain letters, numbers, periods and underscores, and Facebook turns them down in a profile name.
On X each bold letter counts as two of a postโs 280 characters, so a styled post holds about half as many letters.
04
A word, not a post
Bold is for a heading or a word that matters. To a screen reader they are not letters: in tests published in 2025, NVDA, VoiceOver and Narrator skipped styled letters altogether, JAWS spelled each one out with its style, and only TalkBack read the words. Search may not read them as words either. A post set wholly in bold loses the people who listen to it.
Bold text, answered
- How do I make text bold on Facebook?
- Facebook posts and comments have no bold button. Type your text here, tap the Bold or Bold sans line to copy it, and paste it into the post. Keep it to a heading or a few words: the rest reads better, and is found in search, in plain letters. The Facebook fonts page shows it in a post before you share it.
- How do I bold text on LinkedIn?
- LinkedIn posts have no bold button either. Copy the Bold sans line, which looks closest to LinkedInโs own text, and paste it into the post. Bold a heading, not the whole post: screen readers may skip styled letters or spell them out.
- How do I write in bold on Discord or WhatsApp?
- Use the appโs own bold, which reads as words:
**bold**on Discord,*bold*on WhatsApp. The styled letters here work there too, in display names, nicknames and statuses, where the appโs own formatting does not. - Are there bold numbers?
- Yes, upright: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ in the serif bold and ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ณ๐ด๐ต in the sans. Unicode has no italic digits, so the bold italic lines keep your numbers as typed.
