Small text generator
Tiny letters to paste: small capitals, raised superscript and lowered subscript letters. Type once and copy the size that suits a bio, a caption or a name.
Unicode symbols, not fonts: screen readers may skip or spell them out, and search may not read them as words. For print or a logo, use real fonts

About small text
01
Three kinds of small
None of these is a smaller font. Small capitals come from the phonetic alphabet, ʙ, ɢ, ʜ, and from Latin Extended-D, ꜰ and ꜱ; raised letters are the modifier letters linguists write above the line; lowered ones are subscripts. Each is a character of its own, which is why the size survives a paste.
02
Letters Unicode does not have
Small capitals: no q or x, which stay as small letters (Unicode added a small capital Q in 2018, but most phones lack it).
Superscript: no raised q. Capitals have raised forms of their own except C, F, S, X, Y and Z, which take the small raised letter, and Q, which stays as it is.
Subscript: only a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v and x are lowered, and no capitals; the other letters stay full size.
03
Small caps in print
In typography, small capitals are capitals drawn at the height of small letters, set with ordinary capitals for names and acronyms. The last line keeps your capitals tall in that way; the first makes every letter small, as bios do.
04
Where it works
They show on today’s phones and computers, in Instagram and TikTok bios, names, captions and comments, in Discord display names, nicknames and messages, and in posts on X and Facebook. Usernames take only plain letters, numbers, periods and underscores, and Facebook turns them down in a profile name.
On X, 16 of the 26 small letters count as two characters each, the others as one.
To a screen reader they are not letters: in tests published in 2025, NVDA, VoiceOver and Narrator skipped styled letters altogether, JAWS spelled each one out with its style, and only TalkBack read the words. Search may not read them as words either.
Small text, answered
- How do I make small text on Instagram?
- Type your text here, tap the Small caps, Superscript or Subscript line to copy it, and paste it into your bio, your name or a caption. Instagram has no text size setting for posts: these characters are small in themselves.
- Why are some letters missing from tiny text?
- Unicode never made small or raised forms of every letter. There is no raised q, no small capital x, and subscripts exist only for a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v and x. A letter with no form here stays as you typed it.
- What are small caps?
- Capital letters drawn at the height of the small ones. In print they set acronyms and names without shouting; in a bio they give a quiet, even line. Here the first line makes every letter a small capital, the last keeps your capitals tall.
- Is small text hard to read?
- Small capitals read well. Raised and lowered letters are tiny on a phone, and screen readers may skip them or spell them out, so keep them to a word or a short line.
