Only white bubbles have small letters
White bubbles come as capitals, small letters and digits, Ⓐ, ⓐ and ①, and 10 to 20 have a bubble each: type 15 and get ⑮. Black bubbles and both kinds of square come only as capitals, so small letters become capitals. Black bubbles have digits, ❶ to ❿ and ⓫ to ⓴; squares have none.

Five letters that are also emoji
Black squared A, B, O and P are emoji too, 🅰️ 🅱️ 🅾️ 🅿️, the blood types and the parking sign, and so is the circled Ⓜ, the metro sign. This page copies them with U+FE0E, an invisible character that asks for the plain letter. Most apps honour it; where one does not, a word in black squares comes out with a few red letters.

Where it works
They show on today’s phones and computers, in Instagram and TikTok bios, names, captions and comments, in Discord display names, nicknames and messages, and in posts on X and Facebook. Usernames take only plain letters, numbers, periods and underscores, and Facebook turns them down in a profile name.
On X each bubble letter counts as two of a post’s 280 characters, so a styled post holds about half as many letters.
To a screen reader they are not letters: in tests published in 2025, NVDA, VoiceOver and Narrator skipped styled letters altogether, JAWS spelled each one out with its style, and only TalkBack read the words. Search may not read them as words either.

- Are there lowercase bubble letters?
- In white bubbles, yes: ⓐ to ⓩ, beside Ⓐ to Ⓩ. Black bubbles and squares exist only as capitals, so small letters become capitals in them.
- Why do some square letters look like emoji?
- Black squared A, B, O and P, and the circled M, are also emoji, so phones may draw them in colour. This page copies them with an invisible character, U+FE0E, that asks for the plain form, and most apps honour it. For a word that must look even everywhere, use the white squares.
- Can I put numbers in bubbles?
- Yes: white bubbles have ⓪ to ⑨ and a bubble each for 10 to 20, ⑩ to ⑳; black bubbles have ⓿ to ❾ and ❿ to ⓴. Larger numbers get a bubble a digit. Squares have no digits.
- How do I make bubble letters for a poster?
- Use real fonts: the bubble font generator sets your words in free bubble fonts and saves them as a PNG, and the bubble alphabet has each letter to colour and print.
