A mark after every letter
These are combining marks: U+0336 draws a long line through the character before it, U+0335 a short one, U+0338 a slash, U+0332 a line under it, U+0333 a double line, U+0305 a line over it. Your letters stay plain letters, each with a mark after it.
The long stroke, the underlines and the overline carry on across the spaces between words; the short stroke and the slash do not, so the words stay apart.

Gaps in the line
Each mark is drawn with its own letter, so in some fonts the line breaks between letters or sits a little high or low. That is the font, not the text: pasted elsewhere, it may join up.

Apps with real strikethrough
Discord, WhatsApp and Slack strike text out themselves, and screen readers read it as words: ~~text~~ on Discord, ~text~ on WhatsApp and Slack. Use the marks where there is nothing like it: Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X. On X each struck letter counts as two of a post’s 280 characters, so a styled post holds about half as many letters.

- How do I cross out text on Instagram?
- Instagram has no strikethrough button. Type your text here, tap the Strikethrough line to copy it, and paste it into a caption, a comment or your bio.
- How do I strikethrough text on Discord?
- Put two tildes on each side:
~~text~~. Discord draws a real line through it, which screen readers read as words. The Strikethrough line here works too, in a display name or a nickname. - Why does the line have gaps?
- Each letter carries its own piece of line, and some fonts draw the pieces a little short or at different heights. The long stroke joins best; the short stroke and the slash are meant to stand apart.
- Can I underline text on Instagram or TikTok?
- Yes: copy the Underline or Double underline line and paste it. Neither app has an underline of its own.
