  • apa

    After a, from the baseline

  • opa

    After o, from the midline

Stroke order
  1. 1Swing up from the baseline to a point at the midline.
  2. 2Pull straight down through the baseline to the descender line.
  3. 3Loop back to the left and come up to the baseline.
  4. 4Curve up and over into a round bowl that closes on the baseline, and curve out.
Where it joins
It starts and ends on the baseline and joins on both sides. After b, o, v and w its upstroke starts from their stroke at the midline, as in “op”.
Mixed up with

In print the bowl hangs from the top of the stem; in cursive the stem comes first, down and back up, and the bowl sits on the baseline. Its loop turns back to the left, the mirror of q’s.
