The font
Modak. Round, puffed up. Free to use, from the catalogue.
Step by step
  1. 1Sketch a line down and a bump that leaves its top and returns a little below halfway.
  2. 2Swell the stem and the bump evenly, rounding the foot and the top corner.
  3. 3Keep the hole in the bump, however small, and a dent where the bump returns to the stem.
  4. 4Grey the bump’s curve on the right and the stem’s right edge below it, with a glint high on the back’s left.
Watch for
A bump that reaches the baseline makes a D, and one that stops too high leaves a lollipop. Close the bump just below the middle.
Mixed up with

With a leg kicking out under the bump a bubble P is an R, with a second bump a B, and with its bump stretched to the baseline a D.

03 / Questions

Bubble P, answered

A 3D bubble letter is its outline drawn twice, the copy a little down and to the right, the corners joined.

Where does the depth go on a 3D bubble P?

On a P the extra edge curves around the bump, tucks under it into the notch and drops down the stem to its foot.

My bubble P looks like a D: what went wrong?

Its bump has grown all the way to the baseline. Stop the bump at the middle and let the stem go on alone below it: that lone stem is what makes a P.

How do you colour a bubble P?

Two areas to fill, the bump and the stem; the hole is small, so colour round it first and keep it white.
