Bubble letter H
Bubble H stands on two fat posts joined by a short bar, with a round-ended notch above the bar and another below it.
- The font
- Modak. Round, puffed up. Free to use, from the catalogue.
- Step by step
- 1Begin with two upright lines and a bar across their middle.
- 2Inflate both posts and the bar evenly, giving the tops and feet round ends.
- 3Keep the notches above and below the bar deep, so the posts stay two.
- 4Darken the far side of the right-hand post and beneath the bar, with shine on the tops of both posts.
- Watch for
- Posts drawn too fat squeeze the notches into slits, and the H turns into a block with two dents. Set the posts further apart on the skeleton than you would for a thin H.
- Mixed up with
Slide the bar up to the top and a bubble H becomes an A with a flat head; tilt it and it edges towards an N.

03 / Questions
Bubble H, answered
A 3D bubble letter is its outline drawn twice, the copy a little down and to the right, the corners joined.
Where does the depth go on a 3D bubble H?
Depth for an H goes along the right of each post, under the bar into both notches, and along the feet.
Where does the bar go on a bubble H?
A little above the middle, so the lower notch is deeper than the upper one. A bar right in the middle makes the H look squat.
How do you colour a bubble H?
Colour the two posts first and the bar last, so the bar sits between them; a third colour for the bar shows the shape best.
