Lowercase bubble letter h
A bubble h is a tall stem with an arch on its right that starts halfway up, like an n with a long left side.
- The font
- Modak. Round, puffed up. Free to use, from the catalogue.
- Step by step
- 1Sketch a tall line, and an arch that leaves it halfway up and lands on the baseline to its right.
- 2Puff stem and arch out evenly, giving the stem a round top and both feet round ends.
- 3The gap under the arch must stay tall and round, the one white space in an h.
- 4Darken the arch’s leg on its outer side, the inside of the arch and both feet, and add shine to the stem’s top.
- Watch for
- An arch that starts too high makes the h an n with a bump. Start the arch at x-height, not above.
- Practise with
- hi · hug · hat · happy

Bubble h, answered
A 3D bubble letter is its outline drawn twice, the copy a little down and to the right, the corners joined.
Where does the depth go on a 3D bubble h?
The 3D h has its edge on the arch’s leg, under the arch into the gap, and along both feet.
Where does the arch of a bubble h start?
At x-height, about halfway up the stem, leaving it in a round shoulder rather than a corner. The stem above the arch should be as long as the arch is tall.
How do you colour a bubble h?
Colour the stem from the top, then the arch in one stroke to its foot.
