Lowercase bubble letter c
Little bubble c is a short fat ring with a wide mouth on the right, its two tips rounded; the outline closes that mouth faster than on the capital.
- The font
- Modak. Round, puffed up. Free to use, from the catalogue.
- Step by step
- 1Pencil a c as tall as an x, open well on the right.
- 2Swell the curve evenly, giving both tips a round end.
- 3Keep the mouth wider than looks right: on a small c the two tips meet after very little swelling.
- 4Shade the ring’s base and beneath the top tip, and catch the light high on the left.
- Watch for
- A small c drawn as fat as a capital has no mouth left. Use a thinner stroke for the small letters, or open the c to half a circle.
- Practise with
- cat · cake · cool · cupcake

03 / Questions
Bubble c, answered
A 3D bubble letter is its outline drawn twice, the copy a little down and to the right, the corners joined.
Where does the depth go on a 3D bubble c?
Depth on a small c wraps the underside of the ring and the lower tip.
Why does my bubble c turn into an o?
Its tips have grown together. On the skeleton, cut away a quarter of the circle before you outline it; Coiny keeps its c open by curling the top tip inward instead.
How do you colour a bubble c?
One curve and no hole: colour it round from tip to tip, and give the inside of the mouth the background colour.
