Lowercase bubble letter n
A bubble n is one fat stem and one round arch to its right, the white beneath the arch as tall as the letter allows.
- The font
- Modak. Round, puffed up. Free to use, from the catalogue.
- Step by step
- 1Pencil a short line down and an arch springing from its top and landing on the baseline.
- 2Thicken stem and arch alike; both feet and the arch’s crown come out round.
- 3Let the arch’s gap reach the baseline, unblocked; the n has no other white.
- 4Grey the second leg on its outside and the curve under the arch, with a highlight on the crown.
- Watch for
- An arch drawn as a sharp corner looks like an r with a leg, and a gap too small closes. Round the top fully and keep the two legs apart.
- Practise with
- no · nap · nest · nice

One page: the n big and hollow in Modak to colour in, and the same n in the other fonts under it. Crayons, markers or paint; or trace it.

03 / Questions
Bubble n, answered
A 3D bubble letter is its outline drawn twice, the copy a little down and to the right, the corners joined.
Where does the depth go on a 3D bubble n?
On an n the 3D edge follows the second leg’s outside, dips under the arch and runs along both feet.
Why is my bubble n mistaken for a u?
Because the gap opens at the bottom in an n and at the top in a u, and fat strokes hide which end is open. Round the arch at the top and keep the feet flat on the line.
How do you colour a bubble n?
Colour the stem, then over the arch and down the second leg in one stroke.
