Lowercase bubble letter z
A bubble z is a short top bar, a diagonal and a bottom bar in one line, its turns rounded, at x-height.
- The font
- Modak. Round, puffed up. Free to use, from the catalogue.
- Step by step
- 1Pencil a short top stroke, a diagonal back to the lower left, and a base stroke along the line.
- 2Puff the line out evenly so the two corners turn soft.
- 3Two notches must stay open, one under the top bar on the left, one over the bottom bar on the right.
- 4Darken the undersides of the two bars and the diagonal’s lower edge, with a glint along the top stroke.
- Watch for
- At this size the diagonal fills the notches quickly, and the z becomes a block. Make the bars longer than the diagonal is thick.
- Practise with
- zoo · zip · zigzag · zebra

A 3D bubble letter is its outline drawn twice, the copy a little down and to the right, the corners joined.
Where does the depth go on a 3D bubble z?
For a 3D z, put the edge under both bars and down the right of the diagonal.
Is a small bubble z drawn like the capital?
