The font
Modak. Round, puffed up. Free to use, from the catalogue.
Step by step
  1. 1Begin with two short slants that touch on the baseline.
  2. 2Puff them out together, softening both tops and the tip where they join.
  3. 3Keep the opening between them deep, almost down to where they touch.
  4. 4Darken the outside of the second stroke and below the tip, with light on the first stroke.
Watch for
A bottom drawn round instead of narrow makes the v a u, and Coiny’s v is one already. Keep the arms leaning in.
Mixed up with

Rounded at the bottom, a bubble v passes for a u, as Coiny draws it; with a tail below the line it is a y.

03 / Questions

Bubble v, answered

A 3D bubble letter is its outline drawn twice, the copy a little down and to the right, the corners joined.

Where does the depth go on a 3D bubble v?

In 3D the v takes its edge on the second stroke and under the tip.

How do I tell a small bubble v from a u?

The v comes to a point and has no stem; the u has a round bottom and a stem on the right. Coiny draws its v round, so in Coiny only the missing stem tells them apart.

How do you colour a bubble v?

Colour each stroke down to the tip, and finish where they meet.
